Twelve questions to ask
- Are you a licensed Maryland master electrician? What's your license number?
- Will you pull the Montgomery County DPS permit?
- Will you meet the inspector on site?
- Is the price firm in writing, or "starting at"?
- What brand of panel and breakers do you install?
- Do you carry $2M general liability and workers' comp?
- Can you provide a Bethesda reference from the last 90 days?
- Do you offer a written warranty on labor and materials?
- Will you label every breaker on a printed directory?
- Will you torque-mark terminations?
- How long has the company been operating in MD?
- Who actually performs the work — a master, a journeyman, an apprentice?
Why each matters
A handyman without a master license can't legally pull permits. Without a permit, your insurance can deny claims and your sale closing can blow up. The other answers tell you whether you're hiring a craftsman or someone who'll cut corners.
